I don't throw stones. I have opinions and I make observations. I don't know enough about Mr. Piper, Desiring God, or evangelical life to criticize or anyone or offer anything other than an opinion. I do know music. There is a marked difference in the way that African-Americans experience and share their Christian faith through gospel and the way those of European descent share their faith. I think there needs to be a series of discussions about this topic. I plan to listen to more sermons and continue to read devotionals from Desiring God, because the theology resonates with me. However, because music is such a large part of active worship I know that the body of Christ will not be fully united and glorified until the churches wrestle with the issue of race, music, and theology. I don't believe fear of sickness, pain, death, financial struggles, sin, and guilt belong more to one group or the other. I believe we need to ask God to give us the inspiration to write songs that are pleasing to Him, that glorify Him together. I have no battle with flesh. I know who the enemy is. My eternal prayer is for unity. I believe the truth will set us all free and give us the victory.
