Pro Tip, it does have built in graphics drivers for the card Dosbox emulates! Just turn the colors up in the settings. No idea why 98 doesn't by default but it will work.

Did you follow a tutorial or just wing it? I'm hitting roadblocks because I'm not sure how to operate the Linux version of DosBox X, like telling it to use specific configs. I got through Windows 98 installation, but don't know how to have it auto mount the drive it's installed to on restart to complete the setup.
