Magic in general can be framed by any process which directs your attention toward anything but Spirit. In a sense, Magic is the oldest and most consistent form of control in this "reality" we call "Earth". The "masses" are all 1 thing, Spirit. Nothing more, nothing less. When you can awaken to Spirit, you have exited the Prison that Earth is intended to be. That doesn't mean you died and went somewhere else, it just means that you can finally live without fear or reaction or the need to find something outside of you to help you identify what is real and important. Spirit doesn't compete with what is "real" or "important" it is simply what you are. Most of us, myself included are asleep to Spirit. The mental idea of Spirit or an emotional reaction to Spirit isn't the same thing as becoming aware of The Self/Spirit.

I think magic might also be the fast track for discovering there is something missing. And that is the seed of the seeker. But there is no prerequisite to awakening to Spirit, beyond being asleep to Spirit.
