Tomb Raider 1 & 2 blew my mind as a kid in a similar way that Super Mario 64 did. I think the atmospheric soundtracks are some of the most underrated in all of video games.

Nice review. Cannot wait to dive into these. Its worth noting how all 3 games include all released DLC which previously was only available on pc versions so everyone on console missed out. This is the first time many people will get to experience the dlc of all 3 games. Some of the very best adventure games ever made. CORE made some amazing games. Very little handholding. Real adventure. Amazing music too. Well done Aspyr.

No map, No hand holding, no nagging tutorial popups, and pretty much everything Lara does, requires your input. Love it.

Her name is not Laura. It’s Lara. Americans seem to have issues saying her name. Lara!

Tomb Raider: Anniversary had interactive dev diaries relating to the development of the original one. One of the first audio clips was about how people were mad at the game for its killing animals.

The original is a masterpiece. Every sequel has strengths and weaknesses that end up kind of fighting each other, but that original game is just timeless in level design

None of the others in the franchise give me that sense of truly exploring somewhere that no one else has seen for a long long time

It can be challenging, combat is always tough because it's super dated early 3D combat. And it can be pretty head scratching sometimes where the hell to go.

But at the same time the atmosphere and the soundtrack always made this a game that also feels really chill and relaxing to play. You can just get lost in the atmosphere of wherever you are and not get super frustrated super quickly about possibly getting lost or backtracking

I'm excited to try Tomb Raider 3. I never actually played that one. I just had the first one, Tomb Raider 2 which I was less of a fan of because it's trying a little too hard to be a shooter but with bad shooting

And then I hopped right to the last revelation. That one I liked cuz it somewhere reminded me of the first one with that same kind of backtracking and exploration

Then I didn't play any again until legend. I think that little trilogy is underrated even if it's a bit flawed due to a lot of popular gaming trends at the time

But I loved the game series from the beginning up until underworld. I don't mind the newer ones but that's just not the Lara Croft that comes to mind when I think of the character. This one is, The ridiculous sassy and sarcastic adventuring billionaire with no regard for indigenous endangered wildlife 😂

Tomb Raider was not a relic of its time. It was revolutionary. It is a relic in THIS time.

The controls are not a relic of the past. They work fine for the type of game design and level design it's meant for. There's a fine line between something being legitimately dated and something intended for a specific type of game experience that works once you get used to it.

People just need to think of it in terms of, as much as it's overused in examples, Dark Souls - game experience designed in a specific fashion that works fine for those that learn it and adjust to it.

Actually thinking of buying it when I'm done with banishers and a couple of my backlog games. I just really hope that this leads to a Legends, Anniversary & Underworld remake

I have this collection preordered on Steam. And yes I'm excited for this game as I'm a huge fan of the series starting with Tomb Raider 1.

maybe I missed it in the review, but does it use haptic feedback/adaptive triggers on ps5?

These games are still amazing. I love the remastered versions and the old Tank Controls are still a piece of cake to play. Old games maybe but still far more entertaining than a lot of modern games.

How can you say the controls are a relic of the past when they give you a modern control option? Gee, the controls have been used to bash the game for decades, give them what they demanded and they still complain!

I still have the full run on CD for Playstation 1. Finally playing the added levels that never made it to Playstation is all I want out of this release.

1 is amazing, 2 is spectacular, and 3 is just downright sadomasochistix

Great review!! I have a short question: Are there still Save Points or can you save everwhere?

The only thing missing is a physical release.

The camera isn't that bad once you learn to control it (IIRC, the default key used to be 0 in the numerical block - yes, plenty of us grew up with the PC versions ;)). Haven't heard of 3 being very divisive; for me it's the best of the three, though my favourite TR is The Last Revelation, and I hope it gets a similar remaster (and yes, I wouldn't mind getting the somewhat underrated Chronicles with it, too).

Maybe a 7.5 on ps5 where graphical quality is so standard it’s taken for granted. But this thing runs updated graphics on switch at 60fps definitely better than a 7.5 there
