Other Pongal Recipes,

You will require the following ingredients to  cook Ven Pongal at home:
½ cup raw rice
¼ cup moong dal
3 cups Water
Salt to taste
1 1/2 tbsp ghee
1½ tsp oil for tempering
Pinch of hing powder
Few Curry leaves
1 inch ginger, chopped
Black pepper
Cumin seeds
4 to 5 cashews, roughly chopped

Tips While you Cook Ven Pongal:
Amount of water will depend on rice used. If using old variety of rice, use more water. For New rice, use lesser quantity. To make good Ven Pongal, rice should be well cooked till mashed.

What is yel curry Kootoo and Gotsu?. I think the video was real good and clear and well articulated. But what about the pretty sari?. I wonder if that is a safety hazard while cooking. I say this because I lost a cousin to that very thing that caught fire and there was no chance of survival.

This might be a silly question - single guy trying to learn to cook - but other videos say that the rice and dal need to be soaked in water for a few hours if u intend to not use a pressure cooker - but i don't see you doing that. Was that step skipped or not needed to do that?
