F-14 did not have any G limiter as it was mechanically controlled with no electronic nannies. It was only imposed by NATOPS for longevity. F-14 pilots are on video pulling 9 - 10 G in the Tomcats and it was designed to handle it easily without any fatigue or airframe damage. There are even videos on it. F-14 might not be a jack of all trade, but it was master of what it was designed to do. F-14 was built to dominate the airspace and true air superiority, which requires speed, power, acceleration, carry lots of missiles. radar, long legs etc. and it was unbeatable in that mission.

The original top gun was an F14A, the D version came operational in the early 90s

hummm, lets See! So, budget constraints! So, we need to get rid of the tried and true TomCat at 38 million a frame and retire it for the less capable, "70 million dollar" hornet! sounds like Washington to me!

F-14 is able to out run the smaller Jets, but I do like the technology improvements on the F/A 18.

These specs are suspect at best. The F-18 does not super-cruise @4:05

It's interesting how you gloss over the Tomcat's weapons in order to highlight the sheer amount of possible weapons the Hornet could carry. Worse yet, you make NO MENTION at all (except for the written spec) of the Phoenix missile system, which was so unique. Before the Tomcat, only the F-111 carried this long range fully autonomous radar guided missile. A true Fire-and-Forget weapon. Granted it didn't see a lot of action, but this weapon platform alone, sets the Tomcat above any of the other wannabes.
