For the cheapest AIS transponder solution for our sailboat, we found this article and gave it a try. So far, it works a charm. Just make sure it is an acceptable form of vessel identification in your area or region.

Important: When entering vessel information, ensure the unit is off till you are ready to write the information. Then you have around 20 seconds before the transfer of data is no longer possible, and you will have to start again.

The transfer of data is not possible without the programming cable so make sure you order this with the unit.

Keep in mind that it is ment for stationary targets and only transmits per set time, not depending on speed.

I used this solution and successfully and safely went through several busy shipping areas with peace of mind knowing that I'd been seen by big vessels. Charge lasts a long time too, several days. I used to hoist it aloft but have since realised that this is not necessary.

Hello, thanks for this video. Any chance you could post the link for the v1.9 software please? I can't find it anywhere. I have v1.7 but this put the battery percentage info in the ship dimension column A which means, when fully charged, my 9m yacht looks to be 100m long and gets smaller as the battery runs out! Apparently v1.9 moves the battery to vender ID, freeing up dimension A allowing me to put my boat info in. Cheers Russ
