So many vocalists have no problem singing notes in the bottom part of their range.

However, when they starting going up to high notes in their voice, they start to strain and overcompensate.

Instead, I love to show my students a technique for being on pitch and eliminating strainy high notes.

I call it the plane technique...

The corect answer is not just not thinking it like you are not climbing to the top but is to narrow enough to able to control it. it exactly what you did the second time

So you're supposed to start from a slight head voice mix? Is that what it means?

Well I guess I am the odd ball then. Singing in my chest voice is stressing for me. I have a dysphonia when I sing low. I saw the result of singing low with a scope of my vocal cords. Scary. So that E4, even though I could sing it in my chest voice I always go to my head/mix because it is easier.
