Stucco finishes failing, why stucco separates.
Folks, we are located in Oakland, CA.
Send pictures to Jay or myself at our sites below for immediate bids.

In this how-to video, we explain why stucco failures happen.
Poor adhesion is mainly why stucco and/or paint can separate or blister and fall off walls.
This video explains how to create a good bond for adhering to stucco, primer, and paint.
Here we show a color coat that was separating from the stucco wall.

Any particles, weather dust, moss, or paint must be washed well before any bonding agent is applied to the wall surface. I like to call this process micro-scoring or etching. You use a pressure washer with at least 3,000 psi, plus a turbo tip for washing and scoring or etching the existing paint surface.

However, Qiikrete white bonding agent is sold at all Home Depot, Lowes, and most smaller hardware stores.
It sells for about ten bucks for a pint.
Quikrete bonding agent is just as good, if not better.
When this bonding agent drys, it’s clear and a bit shiny.

You do great instructional videos. You're not pompous, too humble, or too critical or demeaning. Love your skill level, and the way you 'teach' me new skills and techniques!

I'm a joiner in the UK (probably called a carpenter in the US) Love watching your videos. I don't know why! I've never touched a bucket of 'mud'

I've never done plastering/stucco in my life... but I've watched at least 20 hours of your videos! How do I explain this? I don't. I just enjoy! I love to watch a master at work--thanks Kirk.

You make it look so easy putting the color coat, I've been doing a 50' long wall and maybe my brown coat was to rough that it takes me longer to spread the color.
Thanks Kirk for your teaching, you got me to do it.

I was amazed by how accurately you matched the pattern of the existing wall.

I fill my joints with sikaflex the same way you do Kirk. Sometimes the 1A and other times 15LM for more expansions. Also, I use primer 429/202 if I fill a crack in the foundation. What I do a little bit differently on the joint to make the overcoat stick, I throw sand caliber 24 when the joint is fresh, so it sticks in the sikaflex and makes a grip. Always nice to watch you work!

Great coaching style. Very good details. Thanks. Trying to stucco ICF foam later today. With steel lathe it is going to be a lot of overhead. Heavy too. How to handle mortar on a ladder single-handed... I guess your 5 gallon pail is probably the way to go. Just even seeing your little scoop and your trowel advice is very helpful. I think you are ready for the surfboard trowel.
