Venceremos in Swedish (Rare) - Chilean pro Allende song [English + Spanish subs]

This is a rare Swedish version of the Chilean pro Allende song Venceremos, which was written in 1970 for the election campagin of Salvador Allende in Chile.

It's one of the most famous examples of pro Allende music from Chile in the 70s and became even more important after his government was overthrown by Augusto Pinochet in a US-backed coup in 1973.

This version of Venceremos in Swedish is recorded by the socialist band Röda Kapellet, which was connected to the parliamentary "Left Party – the Communists" and active in the 70s and 80s. It was included on their album Röda Kapellet from 1974.

Tens of thousands of Chileans fled to Sweden after the coup in 1973 and during the brutal reign of Augusto Pinochet. There are estimations that about 100 000 first, second and third generation Chileans live in Sweden, which makes it the third largest Chilean diaspora community in the whole world.

Harald Edelstam, Swedish ambassador to Chile 1972-1973 did heroic work to protect a large group of Chileans, Cubans and others within the Swedish embassy in Santiago after the coup, including putting an end to the siege of the Cuban embassy by Pinochet's troops and putting it under Swedish protection.
