This channel is the greatest gem I found on youtube so far. Don't think I will find anything like it soon. Robert's way of questioning things, evaluating possibilities and calmly gathering knowlede by sharpening his intellect and setting foot on all kinds of paths WILL get him closer to truth.

Dr. Kuhn’s 5 Questions about #Truth he presents at the end are a good starting point for anyone wishing to understand this topic more fully.

"The more one thinks about things, the scarier they are." You can't say it more succinctly than that!

When Robert finally finds it, he's gonna ascend into the ethereal dimension lol. I hope he comes back to tell us about it.

I really liked the exchange between Kuhn and Tallis when discussing Relativism. I'd like to see a full video of them debating that. The John Hawthorne conversation was tough to view.

There is no truth from science until there is proof of it by experiment. Apparently, this fact about science is what inclined a hero of science, Richard Feynman to say, 'the only truths we know come from our experiences.' Having lots of similar experiences or doing lots of experiments based upon a theory gets us closer to truth. This program heading towards its 2000th episode is for me, proof that Dr Feynman was so on the ball. Thank you so much, Robert Lawrence Kuhn.

I like Robert Kuhn's final statement in the video: "These questions, even without answers, get us Closer To Truth."

I disagree with Shermer. Natural selection selects for those that assume the rustling in the grass is a predator not because that is the assumption that is "right" more often, but because that is the assumption that increases the likelihood of survival. The rustling in the grass is probably only a real threat to survival a relatively low percentage of the time. Most of the time it really is just going to be the wind or a non-predatory animal or something else that's not a threat. Those that assume the rustling isn't a threat would be "right" a higher percentage of the time, but they would die out much more quickly than those that assume the opposite. So no, natural selection does not favor "seeing reality as it is".

18:44 That's at John's! Great episode as always; I did not expect that so many philosophers would be reductionist about truth given that philosophy is love of wisdom, i.e. some kind of truth. Having a variety of opposing theories about truth does make one feel as if getting a grip on the notion though I must wonder - does it really bring us closer or is it merely a mechanism by means of which we suppress our dread? Anyhow, I do hope to run into you in Oxford next year. Thanks for making sure these episodes are so accessible!

This is the second time I have listened to this episode. I appreciate the depth and breadth of Kuhn's questions and love his summation in the last minutes of the show...questions about the nature of truth. Thanks for exploring truth with all of your guests. It has expanded my questions and solidified my own in search of truth.

I really appreciate and enjoy these videos. I have been a seeker of Truth my whole life. I am unconvinced that Truth can be found. I have well under 20 years left on my docket and no hope of finding Truth. At this point in my life, all I can hope is that reincarnation is not real. I never want to come back to this morass of suffering.

Truth is what is. Ultimate simplicity and infinite complexity at once. You cannot argue with Truth, and if you try, then that is Truth.

Truth is elevation to higher states of perception and emotion. Which is why what we feel and think is true is totally different from what is true.

Some people might know the truth, but we should not talk about it because most people can't handle the truth.
