Professor Nick Jennings, who holds a chair in AI at Imperial College, London, designs “human-agent collectives” that learn whether to trust humans or machines more in a particular situation. He explains how these systems have helped decide, for example, where to place water filters in Kathmandu after the recent earthquake.
