Salam my dear friends. This is Dr. Maede, PhD in Linguistics and a university professor. I am a native speaker of Farsi/Persian language. I was born and grown up in Iran.

It's not سلام علیکم. It is grammatical wrong. In Arabic, For جملہ اسمیہ, we need proper noun. If there is no proper noun, we add ال to common noun: It is definite Article. For example, اللہ اکبر. In this sentence, Allah is proper noun. In this sentence سلام علیکم, Salam is not proper noun. So we add ال to Salam and it becomes اسلام
