In this video your baby will learn that if they push their feet against a surface, they will be able to transition to standing. In this tutorial you will play with your baby and teach them how to bend and straighten their legs while pushing their feet against the wall, and eventually the floor to achieve standing.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) by 9 months, most babies will begin trying to stand on their own. Learn how you can encourage your child's standing skills with these simple day-to-day activities. Learning to stand opens yet another new world to explore and it’s vital for his development and independence. Encouraging your baby to stand and enjoy his new point of view will stimulate and engage him. It’s also that all-important first step towards walking.

From birth, your baby has the reflexes needed to 'stand' by bracing his legs and feet against a surface. If you hold your newborn upright on your lap, supporting his head, you'll feel him pushing gently against you. He's not trying to walk, it's just basic instincts kicking in. For now, his legs aren't nearly strong enough for him to stand. This reflex will disappear after a couple of months.

We’ll begin with pushing against the wall to let your baby practice their reaction to pushing with your help. Then we’ll move on to the floor, where your baby will learn to push against the floor completely on their own!

Around 9 to 12 months you will begin to see your baby attempting to stand on their own two feet. To get to know their feet a bit better, it’s important to practice pushing off their feet.
