thank you so much. I'm learning to love my skin & give it better support. <3 after all, the life of my skin supports ME, and that's miraculous work!
for more than a decade I had been greeting my reflection with "ew" or some elaboration of "disgusting" upon immediately zooming in on its flaws. thankfully I've realized this might be the most vital change I make to the ways I treat my body. we're a team. the skin is doing its best or at least as makes sense given the conditions. it's so rude to see the progress of great efforts & greet it with insults. I should instead say, "how can I help you feel better? what resources do you crave? how do we communicate?" and not to mention things like "there you are! I love having you here" or "I love seeing you happy!" I've found myself talking to all parts of me as closest companions. it makes sense when it's replacing immediate negative comments. some thought will pop up regardless so make it nice, right?!
I feel certain that I'll find my way to lifechanging conditions for my skin, and I'll be compassionate towards where it was difficult for the team. I feel like this psychological shift, for me, is the gamechanger because my skin's issues started at puberty. I'm certain that even if my skin could only behave out of my control, it would have saved both my skin & myself a lot of grief if I had simply greeted it compassionately from the beginning with curious care & commitment to proper treatment instead of attaching it to my ego!
