Such a perfect scene. Perfect music, perfect tone, perfect set up... all retconned out in the end.

Let's take this time to appreciate what a great voice actor Kevin Michael Richardson is. That he can play this badass guardian, as well as so many different characters in this show. And many other shows.

I think I know why this ending wasn't chosen, because the comics already did this ending. In fact, the scenes where Ashi is looking for Jack is almost an exact copy, except its some random scribe looking for what happened to Jack. Massive Spoilers ahead for those who want to read the comic:

The comics told his ending way better. After so many years, Jack isn't jaded like his animated version. Instead, he learns that his journey isn't one taken alone, hes no longer the "wondering samurai". His friends gathered around him and united together to help him, making him their king. But he also doesn't let it go to his head, he knows that while he may be their leader, hes one who serves them just as much. While Aku thinks hes crushed Jack's hope of returning to the past, its actually just changed his perspective. You can't do anything about the past. To reclaim it is an ideal that can consume you, instead you learn from it and focus on whats ahead.

Like in the show, there is a war effort made against Aku, but instead its led by Jack and everyone who he has helped along the way, instead of just the Scots. It ends there though, no fight between the two seen. But I honestly think the comic book should be adapted to sort of alternate universe Samurai Jack movie. Theres so much more hope, all of Jack's efforts and friends aren't retroactively destroyed from existence, he becomes a man who isn't stuck in the past (metaphorically), and its assumed he actually defeats Aku here and has a chance to fulfill the Guardian's prophecy.

This is by far the most epic scene of Samurai Jack

After so many years this episode still gives me goosebumps...This show was clearly ahead of its time.

I was REALLY disappointed with season 5. NO rematch with Guardian, no becoming a king, no second thought about all of the friends he leaves when he returns to his timeline. It just felt so rushed.

This gave me literal chills as a 7 year old which made me highly excited for the ending that ended up being cancelled with season 4. When I saw the 2017 trailer having Jack with a beard, my 7 year old memory kicked in and thought "YES!! They are finally animating that scene of bearded Jack with the crown at the end leading the final battle!" All for that just to have one second of The Guardian's shattered glasses. Gennedy screwed with me big time man. My heart literally ached for a cartoon character and foreshadowing being retconned like that.

I'd like to think that after he defeated Aku he was taken back to his original time, became king of his land, traveled the world and eventually found the gatekeeper again, this time he was granted access, he stepped through the portal and saw a peaceful future free from evil.

For countless eons I have guarded this magical power of time travel. All have been denied, from the mightiest of giants, to the tiniest of warriors. You see samurai, only one man has been prophesized to defeat me. And that man is the only man who can use this time passage. And you, my man... ain't that man. -The Guardian

the portal exsist in the timeline that samurai Jack lost ashi....meaning there's still hope and there is still unfinished business

Back when Guardian had faith in Jack for a rematch

The fact that THIS prophecy never took place really hurt me as a fan, along with the rush job that was the final season

I hope this doesn't get taken down. I remember searching YouTube YEARS ago for the music behind this entire episode (it was exclusive to this episode alone) and never could find it. I guess it became one of those 'buried gems'...? This scene captivated me when I first saw it on 'Toonami' in the 2000s. You know that, tingle throughout the body feeling when you've watched something that hits the core of your very being, but you can't describe it?

Thanks for uploading.
