Bengaluru Horror: Woman Allege Rider Masturbated Mid-Ride, Rapido Rider’s Alleged Harassment

Bengaluru may be known for its hustle culture, but there are several incidents that bring forth how traumatic the city is at times for women. Athira Purushothaman shared her story of availing a Rapido bike in Bengaluru and her tweet has left people in dismay. Bengaluru Police have taken note of the incident.

1. Females should not use Rapido bike ( Rapido cab/auto is safer) as they are not safe
2. A rapido bike guy told me that many of his fellow rapido bikers only take up only female's requests in evening and night (they come to know gender by looking at requestee's name), so that they can chit chat, flirt, and even stalk.
3. As literally anyone with a bike and licence can pick up riding rapido bike, their skills and motivations vary widely. This leads to all kinds of mishaps. Most of them drive extremely recklessly in my experience.
4. From personal experience, a female colleague of mine was once taken on an isolated route with the excuse of shortcut, which it clearly was not as she knew all the roads and shortcuts like the back of her hand in that area. She had to shout and even get off the bike to insist the driver to return to normal route. It was dangerous and she was on call with me during the entire ordeal, to keep me informed about her whereabouts.
I felt completely helpless in that moment. We did complain but such complaints are reactive measures, not proactive.

I just wonder how a man can masturbet while riding a bike. More over when someone is riding a bike how can he put his jewells out. The police should investigate this matter.

Most rapido riders I met don't do this job for fun. They barely make enough money to feed themselves let alone their family. Highly doubt he was in mood to do all this. But if he did, take action and upload the follow up news.

Rapido is very inconvenient and the drivers will harass you. It has happened to me a week ago when the driver reached my location and was not responding to calls. Eventually I couldn't board the ride but he didn't cancel the ride either. I didn't cancel since I didn't want to pay the fine because of him. He waited for around 80mins until finally canceling the ride himself. This has happened to me multiple times and I seriously do not know what benefit they get out of this.

SHAME on some of these comments still trying to blame the victim. No matter what happens someone is always there to make this about men and "equal rights equal fights", do they even know what it means? Clearly not. This is why India will always remain a third world country, no matter how many achievements we get cases like these will always outshine and that's just the simple truth.

She is not falsely accusing. The same incident happened to me and my friends. We were in an e rikshaw and a man on a bike starting doing that thing. He had a piece of cloth near his private area so whenever another car or bike crossed us he would hide his private part with the cloth.

Everyone should judge based on evidence. 80% of these are false allegations to get benefitted out of it. If the guy was really doing that, atleast one CCTV footage would have captured it. If he took an isolated route, he should be questioned why he did that?
I cannot imagine the fear the girl would have gone through if this was really happening. She should have been very terrified.

These companies must ensure safety and comfortable journey for a woman. They should hire female riders/drivers and it is to be noticed for a customer is male or female i.e. male rider for a male passenger and female rider for a female passenger. As it is totally uncomfortable when a girl behind a driver sits and a driver would intentionally try to take advantage or misbehave during the journey. Also necessary equipments like a camera with audio device for a driver is required for their own safety too.

Overpopulation is such a huge problem there. Most of these people do not go to school too, there are too many incidents in India. Government should educate kids from a young age that rapes, abuses, any kind of exploitation is wrong. Slum sellers kids are all not in school. Many children’s births are not recorded. Seriously government should do something. I have never heard of any sick incidents as such from any other places

Bengaluru auto people were rude sometimes but they were well behaved. But these bike taxi services are really toxic. These cases are increasing day by day. Delhi has banned these bike taxi and many other governments also. Even it's time for Karnataka government to ban these system.

I would suggest, to have female driver for female rider.
