As a GM, I will say that a player being able to ad-lib a story like that would absolutely get whatever level of distraction they asked for. "The Acolytes listen to your tale with a mixture of disbelief and awe. They think you might be making it up, but they hang onto your words as though they can't stop themselves."

I am imaging this 5 foot ten human screaming at this seven and a half foot green giant, "Pick a weapon!" And the giant orc just turning his head to the side, podering his move. Then suddenly slamming both hands together, like a clap but the man's head is squoshed in-between.

Never make the mistake of thinking that just because Orcs a large, strong, and find the human tongue a bit difficult. That they cannot be wickedly sharp witted.

Reminds me of when in my first and only campaign, our Cleric started out distracting Goblins talking about his fish god.
By the end he had pulled out a giant noteboard and pointer (which the DM allowed for shits and giggles), in which he gave a presentation on his religion, how it raises meat stonks (yes, the stonks meme), and convinced this group of goblins to join him in praying to the fish god and it was absolute gold.
