A little background. RW&RB is the most celebrated YA novel of 2019. Goodreads, Vanity Fair, & NPR named this NYT bestseller Best Debut and Best Romance YA novel of that year. It’s a fairly long novel and the bestselling audiobook version tops 12 hours. As someone who read and listened (multiple times) found the source material utterly charming, I think the vibe in the source material is solidly echoed in the movie. It’s a preposterous rom-com infused with engaging banter and at times disarming wit. The book is a definite guilty pleasure.
