This documentary brings to life the True Size of the Mongol Army by leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5. We begin with the organization of the Mongol Army starting from the level of soldier. Generally speaking, they came in two flavors, the Mongol horse archer and the Mongol horse lancer. These would be grouped into decimal units of increasing size: The Arban (10), the Jaghun (100), the Mingghan (1,000), the Tumen (10,000), and the Chun (30,000). Each of these brought with the additional animals, support staff, and supplies. We bring these all together in various stances from parade rest, to camp life, marching column, and battle order.

General: How many Mongols are approaching?
Scout: Tumen
General: Two men? That’s not a problem
Scout: No sir, you don’t understand!

It should also be mentioned that the commanding officer of each unit was democratically elected by the soldiers of the given unit, except for the commander of the Tumen, which were appointed directly by the Khan. A Chun was usually commanded directly by the Khan or by someone appointed by the Khan.

Not to mention all the infantry that could have been local conscripts or whatever. A truly terrifying force.

Is it just me or does the organizational structure of a Mongol Army seem unusually similar to a modern mechanized force?

Wow this reminds me of war strategy games.
Fights against waves after waves of enemies each wave stronger and bigger and more enemies then the last.

The best way to beat such huge army is by evading them. The Vietnamese did so to devastating effect. Using scorch earth tactics and wait until the Mongols got weak to strike back

You really didn’t need to spend half the time repeating “consisted of [60%] horse archers, and [40%].”

This is not entirely correct when they were on campaign mongol armies would also contain Chinese spearmint and Chinese and Afghan musketeers plus many other units

Impressive against Eastern opponents, but the Mongols found out the hard way in what is now Poland that _no one_ on Earth could ever aspire to master warfare quite as well as Europeans.
