I had this same surgery when I was young. I'm now 18 and living an amazing life with little complications. Ryann is a very very strong little girl. I pray that everything in her life is as amazing as she is.

I’m so glad you are posting Ryann’s journey as this is inspiring for others to witness. She is is very strong little girl! It will get her through a lot During her lifetime. I know as I was born with TGA and with other defects and at the time medicine was not advanced enough to help me. However, a Dr at Boston Children’s told my mom I was very strong and medicine will catch up to help me at some point and he was right! I had a Fontan repair when I was 36 years old. It changed my life! I’m now 64 with 2 adopted adult children, 2 stepsons and 5 grandchildren. Your family is a great asset to the CHD community. Thank you for all the laughs!

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Balmert. I just want to send you a note of encouragement for Ryann. My daughter Laura has had 3 open heart surgeries and only has the 2 left chambers of her heart. She is 35 now and is doing very well. i will pray for Ryann that she remains to do well and grow up to be a happy healthy young lady.

I´m born with a spinal defect myself and had to be emergency operated at 10h. old, and have been in surgeries 20+ times in my 31y. on this earth. So watching this video really hit a soft spot with me, and I´m so happy she´s still doing good ♥🥰. Love from Denmark

I completely understand the struggles of raising a medically fragile child. My son Talon has a very complex congenital heart defect, as well as no spleen. It’s a tough & emotional journey.
