How Caisson is Different From Cofferdam

Показать описание
Cofferdam and caisson are both watertight structures used in civil engineering and in construction, but they have different purposes and uses.
Caisson is a permanent structure that's built into the ground, and forms part of the final structure. Caissons are often used to create foundations for docks, bridges and other structures in water or on soft soil. Caissons can be made from a variety of materials, including steel, timber, masonry, and reinforced concrete.
Cofferdam is a temporary structure that's built around a work area to create a dry environment for construction. Cofferdams are often used for repairs, construction, or maintenance of structures built in water, such as bridge piers, dams, and oil platforms. Cofferdams can be made from wood, timber, concrete, or steel.
Furthermore, Caisson construction involves sinking large watertight cylinders into the ground, and filling them with concrete. Cofferdam construction involves a more detailed process, which includes pre-dredging, installing support piles, driving sheet piles, excavation, and filling.
