The US Mints made a big error in both 1943 and 1944. Some 1943 pennies were struck on lefover copper planchets instead of steel and some 1944 pennies were struck on leftover steel planchets instead of copper. There are 40 or so known 1944 Steel cents and 20 or so known 1943 Copper cents. Be sure to check you wheat cents to see if you have either of these pennies worth a fortune!

I have a silver colored 1943 penny. But i get conflicting answers. Are they worth anything more than $300 ? And how do you tell difference from zinc and steel? Or was it a mix of both? Mine is still in decent shape but i think duller with clean lines. Its been a minute since i took it out but im not 💯 on the duller part.
