Wow it feels like I've been working on this forever! I've seen lots of people do the 30 day learning how to draw challenge but not so many that have documented their painting journey so I hope this is helpful to watch :))

I would love to know what you think of the video and about your own painting journey, whether it is with oils or not!❤️

Quick note ~I forgot to include this in the video but at day 15 I had to pause the challenge to complete some acrylic comissions so this isn't a full consecutive 30 days

If you would like to work on improving your art, join me for a 1-1 call to help kickstart your improvement journey! :

If you want to see the stages I have a story highlight on the whole challenge over on my instagram

References used in the video
I got all of my reference photos from pinterest but I couldn't find all of the photographers and artists names. Here are the ones I do have:

- Day 1, Paint Coach tutorial
- Day 5, John Singer Sargent painting copy
- Day 7, Model is whitneyjasmne on instagram
- Day 11, Smoltog on Instagram
- Final piece, Laura Sheridan Photography for body position
- Final piece, ph_anita_lunacharskaya on instagram for a face reference
- Final piece, Yujin Dong on Artstation for armour reference

Reach that oil painting level in only 30 days is really impresive! You are really talented

I used to paint; like you, I went from acrylic to oil. I had the problem of wanting to do too much and be too advanced beyond my skill level too quick. Then, life started to take up my free time, and I fell out of it. I'd spent so much money on paint and supplies from watercolour to gouache to acrylic, pastel (including panpastels, and oils. I'm actually about to get back into it as a method of repairing my mental health after the last few years. I think I'll do something similar: relax while completing assignments, working 2 jobs, and being a single dad.... your 30 days will be more like 4 months for me since I have all of that, lol. Your progress was really lovely, though. Thanks for sharing!

Keep it up, kiddo. Oils are addictive. Sometimes you will love them. Sometimes you will hate them. But you will always come back to them in the end.

Girl this is amazing! I’m an acrylic painter myself and have never tried oils. You did so well, I’m glad I found your channel because I’m here to stay!!❤❤

Absolute fantastic job! I really enjoyed watching it, and it makes me want to get in to painting as well. :) I only started drawing 3 days ago digitally but it's been so much fun. Seeing this motivates me even more! Great work!

Your journey is truly inspirational. You are beautiful in and out. After watching this video I have found again the inspiration to pursue oil paint. I am more into realistic classical drawing.

This is GORGEOUS. I have been learning oil paints for about a year now and I hope to be as good as you are one day. Trying not to compare myself to you, because i haven't done much painting before this. Oils were pretty much my introduction to paints. I'm just 15 so definitely have a long time to master them but this video just gave me the motivation to keep going ❤

I've been painting in oil for 49 years and still constantly amazed at what it will let me do. You will never run out of it's possibilities as it lets you do a little more each year.

That’s awsome! I love how detailed the final painting looks, but I mean.. I love the starting painting from the day 1 too.
I’m forever beginner, but now I take it seriously. Starting with sketches though :)

The horse is amazingly beautiful! If you love oil painting now, can you imagine how are you going to love them even more after oiling them, after the painting drys?

Bravo and well done to you! I paint in watercolor, acrylic and now oil too. I definitely struggle with painting in a hyper realistic style and switching from 1 medium to the next, it’s as if my brain can’t keep all the “rules” straight or something, anyway I love the look and feel of oil paints and desperately want to improve BUT can’t seem to find an instructor that has a style and method of painting that suits me 🤷🏼‍♀️. You are very talented and thank you for sharing this experience.

I used to use acrylics, but i was never very good and didn't enjoy painting, i just liked the idea of making art, and acrylics were all i had at the time, and markers, which i was also never good at nor enjoyed. Then i stumbled across a youtuber called Scott Christian Sava, who uses watercolour, and i went and bought some watercolors. Since then, i have loved painting, and i even bought some coloured pencils for details. I have upgraded my art suplies a bit and now painting is one of my favourite hobies. Oh, also, ty for making this, i watch it every time i paint because i find it really inspiring. I am still a beginner, but i love your videos and art.

How did you learn so much? I need some good advice on how to best learn realistic painting. I can do some realism but I want it to be MORE REALISTIC! Also wanna become awesome on portraits.
So, What is your best advice?

Also, what do you think about when you paint so the portrait really look 3D? So the shape is visuable. And what to think about when to paint Leather or armour?

I love this painting Love how strong you made her look :D love strong ladies being represented! 🥰
