Gold Star father Khizr Khan 'disheartened' by Trump's call to widow

Khizr Khan became an advocate for gold star families after his passionate speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention where he challenged then-presidential nominee Donald Trump's stance on Muslim immigration. Now, he is critical of President Trump's phone call to the wife of a soldier killed in Niger. Khan, the father of Army Capt. Humayun Khan who was killed in Iraq in 2004, joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss his family's journey and new book, "An American Family: A Memoir of Hope and Sacrifice."

As a South Asian American who was not born in this country I chose to Become an American because chose to become American. I am 77 years old . I emigrated from India Khan from Pakistan to America but to me ( because I am not Hindutva) when I hear the name of Captain Hymunan Khan it brings tears to my eyes because to me he was one of "our boys", I have no children but, when I hear Khizer Khan all I can say say to him is you are a far greater American patriot than Trump, ever was, my brother.

My son went to an elementary school where there were 27 countries represented and 23 languages for part of the population. I mentored a number of the children which included a number of Muslim students from Africa, Bangladesh and Eastern Europe. Too often I have heard students who worked hard say how they are going to miss me when they get sent back. They say their parents will be "put out" and although many were born here they will not break up their family by staying. I always ask "who told you this" and they always respond "no one, they heard it from the mean guy on TV". These kids are not being primed by anyone they are listening to the President of the United States. This is why every one I know in the 25+ countries I have visited tell me they worry about America because without a sane America many of them are doomed.

I HAVE APPLIED TWICE FOR THE GOLD STAR FAMILY LAPEL PIN SINCE SEPTEMBER OF 2020, OVER A YEAR AGO, AND HAVE HAD NO RESPONSE. NOT SURE WHY I AM BEING IGNORED.
