Steam's BIGGEST BAN EVER - The Know Game News

Fresh off their annual Summer Sale, Valve has dropped their biggest ban hammer ever. That's good! But why did they wait until all the cheaters handed over their money for their cheater games? That part's a bit weird.

I didn't cheat, I didn't get banned.

You wait until the sale is over so when you ban them, they can't just go right back and buy even more for just as cheap. A cheater buys 20 copies, for $5 each, gets banned, okay, just another $100.

Cheater buys 20 copies, gets banned AFTER Steam Sale, pays the normal $20 each, $400.

Valve's policy seems closer to, "If you want to cheat on our platform, it's going to cost you a LOT of money. We don't want you circumventing our model just because we have games on sale."

This is why Valve waits until the end of a sale to do anything about them.

this is a win for valve because they're gaining money
this is a win for the communities because they have less cheaters
this is a lose for the cheaters because they now have no money

I think I'm happy with single player games and avoiding the CSGO community whenever possible.

The last time I came this early, my sister didn't talk to me for a week.

Its a strategy to stop cheater from cleaning up before they are caught. If hack X is currently undetectable and valve finds it then valve if valve just banned everyone as soon as they used it the people who haven't logged in would hear and then delete it before they were caught. They let their database build up a good number of them hoping to catch all the active ones at once. it was probably only a day after the sale so they wouldn't have to deal with the customer complaints.

No sympathy for hackers ruining online games. They deserve to get hit as hard as possible. Good work, Valve.

Screw hackers. They've ruined some really fun online games for me! No sympathy from this guy.

GOOD JOB VALVE!!! I don't feel sorry at all for people that cheat at games losing money. They got what they deserved.

Lol I think it was smart of them to do this at the end of the sales not only did they get profit from the cheaters it still supported the online community by banning those people. All of the cheaters must be pissed right about now

Funny how you can't refund games that you are VAC banned in.

i see it more like valve is basically stealing money from cheaters, like some weird version of robin hood.

All valve needs to do is go the route of blizzard. Get a serial number from a random piece of hardware in the persons computer whenever they buy a copy of a game. Then log that serial number into a system that detects whenever they try to buy the game again from THAT computer and the system won't let them buy it again. Therefore, if they buy CSGO and get banned, they would have to buy a whole new computer just to play a new copy of the game. BOOM. Problem solved. Take notes from blizzard.

I'm all for breaking out the ban hammer, if you cheat you should be banned.

Even when valve does something right I find myself questioning their logic.
