Trying $1.60 Momo's while exploring Lajpat Nagar, Delhi 🇮🇳

Talked to my friend @chrismixlewis and knew from that moment that I wanted to explore the Lajpat Nagar area of Delhi.

Started the day off(a hot one) with the a drink that is known world wide, a Kerala Coconut. Met a nice man that had been selling coconuts for 30 plus years, I let him lead the way with his expertise and it was a blessing when the coconut's juices touched my soul.

I didn't know there was a market in this area but I stumbled on it, I just happened to be a little early today.

Finally, after walking around, I saw one thing open, that was some nuts and dried fruit store! While open, it seemed like nobody really wanted to take my order, but through persistence and asking a friendly local, I was finally able to find out the best nuts to buy. I ended up getting some cashews because you can't come to India and not try the cashes. I also got the walnuts, but I didn't realize how expensive they were!

After getting nuts, I found a clothing store that was open. Since I had a nice dinner reservation coming up, I decided to go ahead and get me some nice clothes for the meal. The shop owners here were good men and gave me a fair price. The best part is I got to share a cup of chai with some good people afterwards.

Now believing the sellers in this area were pure gold, I stepped into a store that had a different tone to it. Pricing shoes from $30-100, and boasting about how everything was handmade and pure camel leather. My naive self believed them as I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I still don't know if they really scammed me or not, but something about it just didn't feel quite right, so I learned my lesson and will have to bargain even harder the next time.

The market still dead, I needed to replenish my thirst again with a nice lemon soda! But having stopped for just a few seconds, I got surrounded by beggars so I chugged my drink and got to moving.

Only to find something which I had been looking for this whole time. Chuski, a shaved ice drink in India. With the help of all the bros I got what I think was a blackberry flavor. They were nice enough to let me watch how it's made. Chuski is really addicting and the ice cools you down, just make sure to have something to clean your mouth with later.

I love cows. I put my guard down because I love petting cows too. While I wasn't ready to spend Rs100 to touch a cow since I have done so for free all my life, I will call it money well invested.

Food! At this point I was starving and I had one thing on my mind, momos! This place seemed to be the hottest restaurant in the area as everybody flocked here to get some Momo's. I wanted some heat with mine so I could beat the heat, so I had to get the Chili Paneer Momo's. Ahh what a treat! These are some of the most mouth watering momos and a big shout out to the college bros for holding my camera.

Now that it started to creep into the afternoon, I was able to move into my Airbnb and drop off my stuff, as well as, clean up a little bit. Great room, clean, good host, and just a treat to have a spot like that. Also I was able to share my nuts from before!

So now later in the afternoon, I was walking around an Afghani neighborhood when I met a friendly guy who had been living in India for a few years as he attended school in India. He was from Afghanistan and showed me around the neighborhood and we talked about various things. He treated me to green tea to help relax the mind and then I finally sent him off to get his gym workout in!

You can see Turab's father's work her:

Back to the market and I couldn't even walk through one area because there were too many people crowded around this Ram Laddu stall. Seeing all these people enjoying this snack, I knew I needed to try. Some ladies told me I should try too. So I got my ticket and then quickly handed a plate. With so much demand you can bet you are going to get this snack super hot so don't be like me and take a huge bite right away. I still don't know exactly what this snack is, but it's battered fried and coated in various chutneys! One of my fav snacks still to this day.

Finally as I thought my journeys were done for the day, I walked past what seemed to be a legit Kulfi cart. This son and father team have been selling for 35 years. I got their largest size because I have a sweet tooth and why not support the best I can? It was incredibly delicious and deep down, I wanted to order 2-3 more.

Max brother, everything is now digital. You can always use your smart phone to know the local price of that particular product, you can either scan it or Google the product. You're smart enough to handle this by your own. Still you need some help, you can always ask the local people out there - the youth in India is very generous and supportive.
Love from India 🇮🇳

Binge watched you for the last few hours. Your videos are weirdly soothing. The way how you just initiate the convo with the local vendors and trying and making them comfortable when its supposed to be the other way around usually, is just really appreciable and insanely sweet of you. Such a gentleman ❤

It's really sweet how you always ask if it's okay to enter with shoes on, that's so thoughtful. All gentlemen traits! Your channel is all about kindness and politeness <3

The shoe shop owner’s friend in background is literally saying in Hindi that “ ye khud aake keh raha hai ki Aa bail mujhe maar” which means, you came yourself walking without pressure to get trapped In the scam. He overcharged you bro. Don’t go to such local shops without prior experience or without any local Indian friend. They will loot you

One thing India has going for it is that unlike a lot of other countries you can get around speaking english almost everywhere. Also generally Indian people are helpful.

Someone here from Delhi should go to that shoe shop and remind him of him doing wrong with Max.. Also to the other shop owner who didn’t stand for such wrong happenings!!!

Omg, can’t believe how much he charged. The person outside the shop in yellow shirt was literally making fun on him for paying that much. I would say please ask locals who can speak English before buying something that expensive. Love your vlogs❤

Very sad that he ripped him off. Max is so honest and so good to everyone he meets. Taking your customers for granted so wrong.

😱 I just watched the entire 55min vlog and I didn't even realise until it ended. Now that's a great content 👍 This is my first exposure to your channel.
I felt like personal loss at the shoe price. It was not just double but tripple you paid. Even a person like me who doesn't like to spend much time in bargaining, could have gotten it easily at Rs1000-1200 and people who like to bargain to the extreme can get it for Rs800-900.
#Tip for you: Always look around and try to find someone who can converse in English. At average 1 out of 4 people can do. Ask them for the ideal rate for the item you wanna buy. Never ask the seller first ❌ that way you can save yourself from being looted.

And all the best wishes for your experience . Hope you explore more. Much love from Northeast India (another less explored scenic heaven of India).
