Thank you for this video! I suffer from Misophonia noise sensitivity. I ordered a box of putty pads and installed last night on my outlets and is making a tremendous difference with my new neighbors tv/stereo loudness in my townhome.

I hope nooone else ended up here the same way I did. It’s 2am and I’m at my wits end with all the noise I’m hearing . I can’t afford to move right now rent is absolutely insane. I have a disorder to sound as it is. For months I’ve been dreading someone moving in the unit above me and it’s finally happened. I hear every single noise they make. I hear them talking, walking, breathing, watching tv . ALL OF IT. It’s enough to make me cry tbh. I’m going to try some of this on the weekend . I’m terrified I’m gonna waste money and be in the same position I am now . You should see my bedroom and living room acoustic panels everywhere 😩

Super helpful bro. I would say this helps reduce the noise by 30%, which is a significant improvement for the cost and effort involved. Thanks.

Thank you for your idea. My neighbor and I did this (without the soundproof caulking) on our sharing wall. It really cut down the noise level a lot.

Great idea! I actually want to do this to block air. I have an old house, and outside air blows in through some of my outlets.

How do the foam pads that are used to stop cold air flow in exterior walls on outlet covers do compared to this?

nice trick. I once had penetrating damp on the brick wall of a toilet in an apartment and I had to lean out of the window and treat the wall with two coats of water repellent (in summer) to make the brick dry out - could not think of a way to take it with me though...

How much does this really work? And is it good for concrete/steel rebar buildings too or just for wood buildings?

Use moving blanket as a curtain to insulate windows and outside noise

I'm ultra skeptical about this. I'm an engineer with minor knowledge of how acoustic waves propagate and can't imagine the electrical boxes being the main channels through which noise flows from room to room absent a door or window. My guess is that the acoustic waves in the original room vibrate the walls of that room, then those vibrations pass through the studs and vibrate the walls of the second room, acting as a sort of speaker and creating sound waves in the air of the second room that are similar to the waves in the first room that produced the vibration.

This makes me think that acoustic panels in one or both rooms is the best solution. Not insulating the electrical outlets with putty...

Use metal wall plates, not plastic. More dense = less sound vibration. The replacement when you leave can be plastic.

Any suggestions for blocking a droning sound in an apartment room? I just moving into a new apartment and only my room has a constant droning noise. The sound intensifies when I get closer to the walls. I'm losing my mind. Not even a fan will cover up the noise.

My husband & I will be moving into an upstairs apartment with 5 of our kids, ages 2-12. I am nervous about disturbing our neighbor's, as my kids have never lived in an apartment before & are very loud. It is all we can afford, though, so I need as many tips as possible. I have had talks with them about not running, jumping, yelling, dragging toys across the hard floor ... etc, but the reality is that it will take time to break those habits. Hopefully my neighbor is patient & gracious during the adjustment period. I am looking for any way to help dampen the sound other than the obvious ones. Would pool noodles on the walls help much? I have seen people cut them in half & make wall art, and you can get them at dollar tree. I just don't want to waste money on solutions that make minimal impact.

I moved into a renovated apartment in a former school. I want to "soundproof" the livingroom which is a very large open space that includes the kitchen, hall, and entryway ( approximately 20ft X 25ft with 14ft high ceiling and 2 8ft X 4ft windows ) any suggestions? Decorative Paneling is what I am considering but don't want to go to crazy marking the walls and spending alot of money.
