Passenger Ship Rescues Some 46 Refugees off Lesvos

A passenger ship rescued about 46 people, including at least two pregnant women, close to the Greek island of Lesbos on Monday morning.

Those rescued were mostly refugee women and children from Syria.

Crew members of the passenger ship provided the refugees with towels, water and first-aid.

The refugees’ boat sank as it attempted to reach Greek shores.

The passenger ship acted on orders from the Greek coastguard to rescue the refugees as it was the only ship close enough to save them.

According to crew members, this is not the first time a passenger ferry has rescued people trying to reach Greece from Turkey.
