Chamberfest’s 30th Anniversary Celebration: Ironwood Quartet, Philip Chiu, Radia
Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre | 355 Cooper St, Ottawa, ON
Chamberfest is turning 30 and we are set to celebrate! Join us on closing night to take in a world premiere, some fan favourites, and to meet some of the faces of chamber music’s next generation. Among the trailblazers of Canadian chamber music is Ottawa-based composer, Kevin Lau. Tonight, Chamberfest is thrilled to premiere Lau’s Song of the Quaking Aspens, a piano quintet commissioned for our 30ᵗʰ Anniversary, performed by Ironwood Quartet and pianist Philip Chiu. We are also proud to introduce violist and composer, Ryan Davis (Radia), to our Chamberfest audience. Davis teams up with Ironwood to perform Brahms’ swashbuckling two-viola Quintet in G Major and a set of his own innovative compositions for viola, electronics, and string quartet. Jessie Montgomery’s percussive Voodoo Dolls will get us grooving before we wrap up our celebration with a barn burner loved the world over – Dvorak’s Piano Quintet in A Major.
As we reflect on what we’ve accomplished together over 30 years, we also cast our eyes towards the future and we’re so excited for what’s to come. Celebrating the chamber music tradition, ushering in new voices, and co-creating the future of Canadian classical music – this is what Chamberfest is all about. Don’t miss the party—we only turn 30 once!
