for those confused, I'm pretty sure he means "last mig" as it will be replaced by the "SU" series

The reality is Mikoyan has been on thin ice ever since they lost the PFI contract to Sukhoi. The Mig-29 isn't even really their own design it's a descaled version of Sukhoi's aerodynamic configuration contracted to MiG to keep the design bureau alive.

According to an article about the Mig-29 by a former IAF pilot:
pros - immense amount of thrust from its two rd-33 engines
cons - the engines were fuel guzzlers and the mig itself had limited fuel capacity so you always had to have one eye on the fuel gauge during a dogfight.

The Harrier test pilot John Farley got a chance to fly a '29 at a Farnborough air show in the early 90s (much to his surprise!), and he loved it. Especially the low speed handling (iirc!)

MiG actually tried to pitch MiG-29 and 35 to China. But the reason why China didn't bat an eye have to do a very similar reason as why India didn't take the MiG-35...
Back in the 70s' China wanted MiG-21, which at the time is a very advanced jet. However, after getting the production license (technology transfer), the blueprints Chinese received didn't match with the knock-down kits they received. And it's also the time where Shino (Chinese) - Soviet relation soured with some help from the U.S. So, the Chinese resulted intercepting MiG-21s destinated to Vietnam near Chinese border to take apart and study them.
So, you can say MiG helped China to kick start their aviation industry, pretty much like how American B-29 and C-47 kick started Soviet Bomber/transport industry.

I expect they've largely refocused future design efforts towards Mig-31 variants and successors. I'd exoect the next Mig to be a big fast high jet with a very specific mission.

What was holding the MiG29 back was the price, performance and electronics. Overall it was fine for its purpose in the 80s, but the MiG bureau has provided insufficient updates on the platform. Very minor iterative upgrades havent convinced export customers. The 35 is where the platform shouldve been in the esrly 2000s

I will try to make it a fair time for Australia, USA and Europe which is a bit hard. Likely Saturday afternoon USA time, Sunday Morning Australia

The Mig 29k was a beautiful upgrade from the Indians. Increased barrel lifetime, longer durability and improved performance and reliability, not to leave the massive upgrade on it's ew capabilities as well as more sophisticated digitized cockpits. I've gotten to see them up close and they're so beautiful.

The Mig-29 was known for its exorbitant fuel consumption, and its pilots called it: air superiority fighter, over its own airfield.

12:15 The mig still has problems with maintenance. Since 2018, 4 out of 6 migs have crashed. As a result, lost 15% of their fleet to maintenance problems.

MiG-29 is a great low cost fighter that can go toe to toe with the F/A-18D in close combat. Malaysia owns both fighter and had lots of simulated battles with one another throughout the years. MiG-29N is more maneuverable and faster than the F/A-18 with a top speed of over Mach 2 but the drawbacks for using Russian fighter jets is maintenance as spare parts can be difficult to find.
