Video: In this video, I’m going to tell you why blood pressure is different in each arm. Also, I’ll let you know why this happens and what possible dangers exist when your blood pressure is more in your right or left arm. When was the last time you went for a checkup and the nurse or doctor took your blood pressure in each arm? I bet most of you will say never. The American Heart Association recommends nurses and doctors check blood pressure in each arm during every visit. The International Society of Hypertension Guidelines and the European Society of Hypertension both recommend blood pressure to be taken in each arm during a patient’s initial visit. At one time it was common practice for your blood pressure to be taken in each arm and for the doctor to check your pulse in all 4 extremities. It’s unfortunate this practice is not the norm today. If this has happened to you or not, comment below. I would love to read the results and see how many say their BP has been taken in both arms. I can tell you it’s never happened to me until I started to ask them. So what can cause a difference in blood pressure in each arm? A small difference in blood pressure between your right and left arm is normal and not a concern if the difference is less than 10 mm hg...
