Blood Pressure Different In Each Arm Study:

Video: In this video, I’m going to tell you why blood pressure is different in each arm. Also, I’ll let you know why this happens and what possible dangers exist when your blood pressure is more in your right or left arm. When was the last time you went for a checkup and the nurse or doctor took your blood pressure in each arm? I bet most of you will say never. The American Heart Association recommends nurses and doctors check blood pressure in each arm during every visit. The International Society of Hypertension Guidelines and the European Society of Hypertension both recommend blood pressure to be taken in each arm during a patient’s initial visit. At one time it was common practice for your blood pressure to be taken in each arm and for the doctor to check your pulse in all 4 extremities. It’s unfortunate this practice is not the norm today. If this has happened to you or not, comment below. I would love to read the results and see how many say their BP has been taken in both arms. I can tell you it’s never happened to me until I started to ask them. So what can cause a difference in blood pressure in each arm? A small difference in blood pressure between your right and left arm is normal and not a concern if the difference is less than 10 mm hg...

My physicians never check blood pressure on both arms. During my last visit, a nurse measured blood pressure on my right arm because it was more convenient. She could not find any pressure and then she found Left arm pressure was alright. I got concerned and checked on both arms when I came home. I found that diastolic and pulse were almost the same. However systolic had significant difference of 30 points. Thanks for your video, I will measure blood pressure on my both arms.

My doctor would not believe me when I said that having to take BP from my right arm would read higher than my left arm. (I had a lymphoma removed from my left arm and cannot have any pressure applied to that arm) Thank you from New Zealand

My left arm is higher in blood pressure than the right arm. It’s because my vein popped when the nurse drew blood on the left arm. It didn’t cause any pain, but now my vein is now collapsed. It is never good and I have to deal with it.

Thanks for the vid! A nurse checked both arms for me but only after asking. I also had her check my home monitor so I took up a lot of her time but they weren't busy.

I went to my Dr. Yesterday. The nurse checked it with left arm and it was normal. Then the head nurse came in and checked it in the other arm and it was very high. Then the Dr. returned and took it again. It was normal on the left side and extremely high on the right side. She said it was unusual and could mean there is some kind of blockage in one of my heart valves. Uhg!
