I was there that night with a friend who wanted to see Dave Gilmore play. I wasn't that interested in going; I just went for the ride. The audience was mostly middle aged men in baseball caps with their wives. I could hear them chuntering around me when Winehouse started singing. I'd heard of her but wasn't that familiar with her music and I thought she was absolutely amazingly talented. Also brave to stand up in front of that crowd. I wonder who booked her to play that night.
