You are too good to be working on CNET. You deserve to have a series of high production value shows.

The combustion engine is still getting better and better! So a new kinda hybrid technology is going to be the future!

Did I miss a CNET on Cars video? or did CNET not upload the full video to begin with?

Electric car should've been number one. They are the future. The combustion engine with all those changes are on its way out the door. Self driving cars are definitely our future as well.

I think you are wrong in needing a breakthrough in battery technology. We have the technology now, the only problem is the cost. But as long as we continue the 5-10% improvement per year in battery density/cost, there is going to be a tipping point within 6 years where EVs are cost competitive with the equivalent ICE vehicle with a 300-400 mile range. Within 6 years after that, EVs will have such a huge cost advantage that you will ICE vehicles drop off the market like we saw with film cameras in the 2000's

Perfect, loved it!

I am wondering what are some new breakthrough technologies for saving weight, like fiber carbon, stronger steel, etc. You mentioned some of them, but is there something game changing. An obstacle for fiber carbon has been cost for example.

And the breakthrough in battery tech needs to be cost, charging power.

I like the list, but the order is disputable. Actually I think you have the order in reverse.

Autonomy and electrification are easily the biggest trends. All you have to do to see that internal combustion engines are one their way out is to look at the diagrams in this video. ICEs are complicated. Complicated mechanical systems break down and require maintenance. Electric motors are much more reliable and require almost no maintenance. Even without a breakthrough, battery capacity is increasing by a few percentage points every year. After a couple decades, that will be enough to make batteries competitive with gasoline engines on range.

But the biggest trend of all is that technology companies like Tesla, Google, and Apple will take over from traditional automotive companies and dramatically increase the rate of innovation.

Battery development will be a game changer in adoption of electric vehicles. Also glad it's not all gloom and doom for the internal combustion engine and cars in general. Exciting times!

Come on Cooley, weight should be number 4 at best. Autonomy will change the world. How efficient or fast the car goes, is unimportant.

What about, magnetic suspensions, like the one from BOSE?!
