Mewtwo is the original secret final boss of pokemon. But, despite being around since Red and Blue, Mewtwo has a number of different origins. Ranging across the games, manga, anime, movies and tv shows, Mewtwo has been the first live birth of a pokemon, a clone of Mew, a human pokemon fusion, a genetically altered super weapon and even used to create Mewthree. This is the uncut story of Mewtwo's origin across all mediums the pokemon franchise has to offer.

I didn’t know people actually took the “Mew gave birth” line as literally meaning it gave birth. I’ve always read it as them successfully cloning mew from its dna, a metaphorical birth, not a literal one.

Mewtwo mega evolving is logical... it can hold the mewtwoite and the keystone. Its its own trainer. Although, why there are mewtwoite, and not mewite is odd. I often wonder if mewtwo is actually an evolution of mew, or maybe mew does make mewtwos, like manaphy makes phiones. And the offspring doest evolve...

In Pokémon red, red meets a female sounding mewtwo and I always thought that's not My Mewtwo, that's a clone they tried to make of Mewtwo. And the real Mewtwo travels and helps people and Pokémon. Amber is the one who taught him to care and understand that he too has feelings. That's why he cried when she died, he loved his friend and couldn't stop her from dying. But crying wasn't going to stop her from dying. I love Mewtwo character so much. He's smart, strong and learned to be caring for others. His physical design is very nice and his voice acting great. Mewtwo and Pikachu will always be the face of the Pokémon universe.

I feel like the game canon is the most official one, but they omitted Mew birthing Mewtwo in the anime because it would’ve probably been too dark a storyline to show for children on screen. Given that it likely involved Mew going through many cruel experiments and being implanted with a genetically altered embryo.

Having Mewtwo created from DNA from a Mew fossil and grown in a tank seems a lot more watered down for young viewers’ benefit.

Cool Fact: In the first movie, Mewtwo is a female voice, and Mew is very mean to Mewtwo, it tells him stuff like a copy is jus a copy, you never be like me and stuff like that😅
Of course for the english version they took away all of that and limited Mew to just saying Mew😅

Mewtwo can be a clone and still have been birthed by Mew. Back when Gen 1 was made the most famous example of cloning was from Dolly the sheep, she was made from the DNA of one sheep, put into the ovum of a second sheep that had it's own DNA removed, they used electricity to stimulate cell division and then they implanted the growing embryo into a 3rd sheep. This was made because unlike sci-fi they didn't have artificial wombs to grow the embryo. Even artificially implanting embryos is a delicate matter and the process often fails. Some animals are notoriously hard to artificially inseminate, much less use them for cloning.
The scientists could have harvested DNA from Mew, modified the sample, used a blank ovum with it's own DNA removed, and then implanted the embryo into Mew because it was the only way to make it grow.
Mew gave birth to her own clone that they forcefully implanted in her.

5:56 dang that's wild, and since they throught mew was immortal (and it was funded by team rocket and geovoni in particular who is an evil rich elon musk type pos who doesn't care about anything but his bottom line and forcing his scientists to do what he wants) they probably didn't even give mew the proper treatment they would even give a regular Pokémon, they basically tortured it probably because "well it's immortal isn't it?" Shit that doesn't mean it can't feel pain! And it turns out no, it's not totally immortal so it suffered needlessly and then died as the last one of it's kind 😢😢😢

my brain derailed when i'd noticed it by why is Dr Fuji so obsessed with cloning his daughter alone when his wife also died? Was his wife a scientist? Was his wife against the ethics? Was there actually a divorce incoming and that's why he hyperfocused on Amber, the last person he knew for sure loved him? also was her name really Amber just for the writer's to say "Yeah, she's fossilized Amber! Get it?"
