#128 China’s Belt & Road Doesn’t Lead Anywhere Good

China has been going around the world signing development deals with countries in an initiative it calls Belt and Road, formerly One Belt One Road. It’s a massive infrastructure project that was started in 2013 and goes from East Asia to Europe. The goal of the program seems benign—invest in other countries’ infrastructure using Chinese engineering and manufacturing. But like most things the Chinese Communist Party touches, it has come with corruption, subversion, and deceit. Are we seeing the expansion of Chinese communist colonialism? Joining us in this episode of China Unscripted is Dr. Rachel Winston, a professor and author of several books about China, including “Belts and Roads Under Beijing's Thumb.”

Pilipino here and most of us are not into Sarah Duterte we voted Duterte to go against China's claims on our Islands instead he went against his words and sided with China now we won't vote for his daughter we want to reclaim our rights on our sea so our fishermen can fish once again in the seas we Pilipinos are a Democratic people we don't want an authoritarian Government.

Here in Australia there many examples, the strategically important Darwin Harbor was initially leased to China (99 Years) The Victorian State Government was preparing to sign up to some aspects of Belt and Road be fore the Feds stopped them. Thankfully Governments and press woke up when China showed its hand with a trade war on agricultural products

I lived in mostly teacher's apartments in China, or received a school allowance. Also, ordinary people seemed to be terribly compliant and afraid to speak out against anything. One guy even said he had to go exercise so his phone would up his social credits...say what??

43:30 this is also happening in the Philippines, they already bought and paid for an entire island that was once a major resort and has been converted into this chinese city within the Philippines which is completely walled off and complete with security guards, and offices/workplace, apartments/condos, restaurants, the works
