What are the real problems of the German economy? | DW News

Leading German economic institutes have revised the country's growth this year down to near stagnation.

They now expect the German economy to increase by just 0.1 percent in 2024, slashing their previous forecast of more than 1 percent. High interest rates, weak global demand and political uncertainty have disappointed hopes for a stronger recovery.

For more on this, we are joined by Jörg Krämer. He is the Chief Economist at Commerzbank, one of Germany's largest banks.

Germany is spending bilions to decrease CO2 and in the same time they are closing nuclear pp (which could work for few more decades) in order to replace them with coal and gas. Does it makes sense?

Germany is no longer envied.
There are many rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of Germany's woke policies leading to its demise.

USA had planned to take out a competitor. The amazing part is that they got them to do it to themselves-

Are we going to ignore the elephant in the room, Nord stream 2 pipeline and cheap energy which was the backbone of Germany industries??? They had a surplus of it and they used to export it to rest of Europe.

When the German Football Association [DFB) signs with Nike instead of continuing with Adidas without warning? Everything.

I've been concerned since I found out how expensive electricity is there (even pre-Ukraine-war).

It's a right direction for Germany focusing on its own economy problem, not Chinese.

The Ukraine war is almost entirely about the US preventing Europe from peacefully integrating their economies with Russia and Asia. Russian fuel and raw materials, Asian labor, and European engineering would lay the foundation for an economic superpower that would benefit the entire world (except the US/UK). Voluntarily excluding the Chinese markets is the final nail in the German coffin. Germany has to pay high price for American gas and raw materials and pay tariffs to export to the US. Germany has no markets to sell exports where they can actually make any profit. Their only hope at survival is to export industry abroad and try to repatriate the earnings back to Germany… which will only help the wealthy. As an American I am truly ashamed of not only how we have treated Europe but how our entire approach to Russia has caused this conflict. The world woukd have been so much better if we had bent over backwards to enable Russia to establish a strong economy that integrated with Europe and encouraged democratic institutions within Russia. History will judge us harshly. In the long run it is inevitable that Europe will integrate with Russia and China…. assuming that we don’t destroy the world with nuclear war first. War just delays the inevitable and is a final grasp at transfer of wealth to the US. The US wants Europe frightened so we can sell you weapons.

what about Merkel's million immigrants so lovingly embraced? By now, they should all be entrepreneurs, professionals, productive workers, right?
