Demystifying SaaS: Unveiling Software as a Service

SaaS. It stands for software-as-a-service, and it’s quickly becoming the norm for many companies.
A SaaS company has a software product housed on their servers and that company manages access and upkeep of that product. Customers and end-users connect to that software through the internet.
Previously, almost all software was sold to the customer, and the customer would download that software onto their computer, or to their business’s server. But with the introduction of BYOD, or bring your own device, SaaS has gotten a lot more popular.
That said, some of the drawbacks of using a SaaS are:
You have no direct control if the system is having downtime or issues
BYOD can leave the company open to security threats, and generally requires additional security tools like 2FA
And Performance is dependent on more variables, including end-users internet connection
You’ve probably heard of a lot of companies that use the SaaS model already, like Salesforce, Rippling, or Paylocity.
