What Wilson won’t mentioned is that scholars like Pelikan and JND Kelly taught that baptismal regeneration was universally held in the early church against Gnostics. Not only that, but Pelikan also taught that Augustine got his understanding of original sin and infant baptism as salvation for it from Cyprian and Ambrose, not Manichaeans and Gnostics. I mention them since Wilson love to claim they support his thesis.

Moreover, scholar Stephen Cooper taught that Marius Victorinus held to unconditional election before Augustine yet Wilson claim him for support on his view Marius Victorinus rejected unconditional election.

Sure, the early church held to freewill but one that is assisted by prevenient grace. Hence, examples of church fathers, like Jerome and Chrysostom affirming faith is a gift of God view of Ephesians 2 and other texts before Augustine did. Contrary to Wilson’s claim only Manichaeans and Gnostics taught faith is a gift of God exegesis before Augustine.

Irony: the entire early church held to John 3:5 baptismal regeneration and only Gnostics then rejected it.

Yet, Ken Wilson passed off the claim later Augustine invented baptismal view of John 3:5 to replace physical birth for water.

Ken Wilson wants to claim the pre-Augustine church held to physical birth view of John 3:5, until Augustine out of Manichaean Gnosticism changed it to baptism.

He can’t quote a single church father on that. Not in his dissertation or any other book. Not in any of his interviews.

There’s a reason for that:he made it up.
