Ever wondered what it's like to step off a ten storey building? Well, at the Grindelwald Canyon Swing you can find out!

Outside Grindelwald in Switzerland there is a deep canyon left over by a glacier. Here they have set up a rope that enables you to jump into the canyon. Despite being called a "swing" the first part of the jump actually drops you in freefall for about 2 or 2.5 seconds and you fall about 30 meters or 100 feet. This was my first experience of freefall and it totally overwhelmed my mind. I don't know if it's because you jump feet first, but the sensation of freefall is incredibly intense - it felt like my stomach had just gone out the back of my head. It took at least a day for the impact of the jump to drain from my body and mind. It is a very surreal experience to step off a platform over such a big drop and to fall so far.

If you are looking for an intense experience this is it! I've done a good deal of adventure-type activities in Switzerland and this was far more intense than anything else I have yet done. This trip was organised via the Grindelwald Sports Shop near to Grindelwald train station. The staff at the canyon swing were from Outdoor Interlaken. I can recommend both firms without hesitation. They have tons of outdoor activities to choose from in the Interlaken / Grindelwald / Lauterbrunnen area.
