Disclaimer: All the risks associated with pinching a coin in between your fingers and then tapping it with plastic and/or wood are present when using the device. The ping test is used for alloy identification. Always compare the sound of a potential counterfeit with the sound of a known authentic or trusted data base. Any difference in sound is a strong indication that further testing is needed. Always use multiple testing methods.

The Pocket Pinger has helped catch over 100 fake coins, all confirmed.

If you catch one with yours please reach out. There’s a valuable lesson to share in each story.

Dozens of Pocket Pinger demo videos can be found on the profile.

A simple ping test really can prevent a counterfeit situation.

the copper content on the coin slows down the magnet from descending

The tapping of the coins makes different sounds. The clink of real silver coins sounds more high pitched than copper ones with zinc shells

Both are real IF weight is only in alloy difference ... 10% contain more copper or 10% contain more zink. ...Silver quantity is the same

I’m gonna have to remember this trick. Sometimes it’s hard to spot a fake. Either bad eyes, or a dirty coin can make things a bit challenging. But that oh so subtle sound difference… reminds me of when I heat treat a knife, and after the quench it’ll ring like a bell instead of sounding like a dead useless chunk of steel.

Fakes btw, are getting harder and harder to spot, so the more tests we can find, like this 1, the better.
