Kobe should have been named the Finals MVP in 2002. Especially his clutch plays (game 3 for example) and his shooting percentages were absolutely incredible!

Carried my Ass! Kobe in game 3 alone was the reason why the Nets got swept.

Some players are born to play their sport, Kobe was one such player

Kobe was averaging 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists as he was “carried” to the title. If this is being carried then what is contributing lmaooo

He had that MJ swag for real this game. Kobe was different. Jordan’s peak is the pinnacle and Kareem and now LeBron has an overall better/longer/ healthier career but as far as peak, there are about 10 players or so who if you had their best 13 years who would win you chips. I prefer Kobe. He had 3 years with no shot in his prime and still 7 Finals appearances and 5 wins. Shaq best year was 2000 and still Kobe had to take over late against Portland in the 7th game down double digits. And even hurt, pivotal game 4 in the Finals late play. I love Shaq but Kobe was different. It’s like how I loved Magic but I feared Larry more than anyone else. He was different

I was very fortunate to see the Lakers 3 peat in real time, I remember this sweep of the New Jersey Nets as if it was yesterday. I was 13 when this series was live. With that said, Kobe and Shaq were the best one two punch in Assocation history. MJ literally carried the Bulls in the 90s and Kobe and Shaq needed each other to win 3 in a row and go to 4 Finals appearances in 5 years. They went in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 when they lost to the Detroit Pistons. No doubt Kobe should have won MVP honors for the 2002 NBA Finals against the NJ Nets.

I will always remember this series. Kobe's audition. Kobe displayed his signature moves. Especially when they went to New Jersey. Kobe cut his hair during this season. This is definitely my favorite series. Now he had good games but every game in this series Kobe was phenomenal. Best game Game 4 Vs Indiana. Thank you Kobe and the rest of the Lakers for amazing memories. I miss Phil whistling at the players.💛💜
