Kobe Bryant, Reggie Miller Fight
Fox Sports Net (Lakers) Full Coverage
LA Lakers vs Indiana Pacers
March 1, 2002
Staples Center

Since clarified by Reggie as a classic case of “unwritten rules” being broken, the miniature brawl led to a statement made by the Pacers’ legend two days after the incident:

“Kobe has other issues he has to deal with. This had nothing to do with me or the basketball game played on Friday evening.”

The league handed both shooting guards 2 game suspensions for the scuffle. In addition, both were fined - Bryant $12,500 and Miller $10,000.

Reggie was one of the few people to really rile up two of the greatest to have ever played this game. He got MJ and Kobe to both punch him 🤣

As much I like number 8 Kobe, his behavior was more erratic, Ill tempered and far more likely to get into fights. Number 24 Kobe was more mature, and tend to avoid getting into fist fights since he knew he was important to the Lakers success as the number one option and leader of the team.

02:21 Kobe was like "Alright bet then Reggie, you wanna run the hands right now, we can run the hands!! What's up!? What's good!?!?" And Reggie was like "Man what you wanna do!? Let's go right here, right now

Reggie is very skilled at getting under other players skin. He got Jordan and Kobe both to swing on him lol.

It is rare for a man to say that he threw fists with the top 2 best shooting guards in basketball of all time, that's a story for the grandchildren.

I remember Kobe mentioning in the interview with Shaq about him and Reggie playing one on one in the months leading up to the 2000 NBA finals and used that game to measure Reggie and see what he would be going up against if they ended up playing them in the finals. Maybe Reggie was still mad about Kobe making him look like a fool by tricking him into showing his cards. Combine that with the eventual outcome of the Pacers losing to the Lakers in the finals, and the continued Lakers dominance when Reggie still didn't have a ring. Somehow, I don't think this was just frustration over one game for Reggie. This was where he hit his breaking point, but there was more lead up to it other than Kobe's late shot when they had already run away with the win.
