Collin Raye a totally underrated artist. I think he has a lot of great songs. Glad you enjoyed this song Harri. Great reaction.

The song you were remembering is "Right Here Waiting" by Richard Marx. Yes, I see how you can make that comparison. Both Richard Marx and Collin Raye are beautiful singers who pull at the heart strings. When Richard Marx first came on the scene, I went out and bought a bunch of his albums to give to my friends. And, I saw Collin Raye in concert back when "Love Me" just came out. To this day, Collin's concert was one of the best I've experienced. Thanks for reacting to this song.

If this song DOESNT make you cry, you're not human. I sang this at my grandma's funeral and there wasn't a dry eye in the room

He reminds me a little bit of Dan Fogelberg

True story! We bought our house back in '89 and actually lived next door to Colin Rayes Aunt. Miss Becky has been gone from us a while now, but every time I hear this song I think of her and Mr. Bill her husband. We miss them so much as they were kind and gentle souls!

When my mom was in the hospital my dad spending lotta time with her and I was raised by my great grandparents for that time. The song gets me every time because she passed away before him and that was the first time I’ve ever seen him cry.

Another great song by Collin Raye is "Little Rock". He has a great voice that is made for the 'storytelling' country music is famous for, but in "Little Rock" you get even more of his vocal range.

What a very moving reaction and it's interesting to hear you relate it to your own grandma. I knew this would happen; I haven't heard this song in years and years, but based upon everything I said in my previous comment and your reaction to it, my allergies are definitely acting up.

This all just means so much to me and I also miss my friend so dearly. He passed away more than a decade ago.

HARRI! What a small world, I know the guy that wrote this and he had several other songs that charted in country music although there was this huge time lag between the time that his agent in Nashville submitted them and that they became hits. This was back in my early twenties when I was just working part-time jobs and trying to play in bands and stuff and I was taking care of this guy who was a bit disabled and then one by one these songs with come on the radio and he would fall out of his wheelchair and excitement and I really didn't believe it at first but then the royalty checks started coming in because those people that work for him like me I'm part time shift split open his mail for him and wow.

Anyway, when this song became a hit while I worked for him, and by the way we recorded some stuff and I did some of his songs and we sent them off but unfortunately at least to my knowledge none of them ever got sold to anybody, cry. Laugh.

But he said that the inspiration for the song and you got to remember, so I was in my twenties and this would have been in the early 90s, and he was already I think close to 60, so he was old school and he had almost died from scarlet fever or something as he was being born and that's why he was somewhat disabled, but at one point he remembers after his grandfather died and the family went through his few possessions, they found a suit coat from the way back hanging in his closet and they went through the pockets and they found a handwritten note.

The contents of that note were largely the basis of this song and the family had always wondered what the story was and it wasn't until that moment that they finally realized that these were the circumstances leading up to him eloping.

And that was it appeared in the 90s where the so-called new traditionalists and country were really starting to make it very interesting again, like Dwight Yoakam and Randy Travis and then well also George Strait for sure, and then straight on their heels were they even younger ones that weren't quite as traditional but Innovative for sure like Garth Brooks and Clint Black.

And anyway, Collin Raye was more almost like a religious Christian dude not nearly as Innovative or cutting-edge for me as I liked the guys like Dwight Yoakam and so forth. But you know what? He was the one that did my friends song and made it hit and then also, I got into some other of his songs and I was playing in a hockey Tonk band at the time and we started covering a couple of his songs and the bottom line is, and I'm getting ready to listen to this and I'm sure it will happen, but because of that whole thing I just told you, it always makes my allergies act up and Collin Raye has this particular ability to get to your emotions.

I can't remember the name of the song but I'm sure it's easily findable but he had a huge hit also with this song about Little Rock Arkansas where he's talking about a guy that has messed his whole life and his family up with his alcoholism and he just went off to a small town in Arkansas and went to this fundamentalist church and he's working at Walmart selling VCRs and he's having an epiphany about how much it really means and how important his family is to him and he's really trying and it is just a tearjerker like you wouldn't believe.

Hi Harri! I'm one of your 100, 000 and I've known Collin since the early 1980's in Reno. You're comparing him to Richard Marx. Love, Me was his first #1. He's had many more since then you might want to hear. My personal favorite is "I Wish I Could", followed closely by "On The Verge" ... the song that sucked me into Country in the 90's, when Country was where Rock had been in the 60's. I love ❤️ listening to you from Oregon!
