The Asus Flip 14 COULD have been the PERFECT Ultrabook

There is an abundance of laptop options out there. But when you’re searching for the jack of all trades, that is convertible and compact, yet also powerful and affordable, your options start to diminish pretty quick. But at least from first glance, the Asus Zenbook Flip 14 seems to deliver on all of these fronts, but unfortunately has one huge flaw.

For me, it's perfect because I don't need thunderbolt 3. Price is also really good $1799 aud for i7 16gb 512ssd

My fingerprint reader works every time. Very fast, great screen, looks, build quality at a very reasonable price.

The review is spot on. If it had thunderbolt 3 it would be the ultimate all rounder and unique in this segment, but because it hasn't it's completely unremarkable.
What I wouldn't give to get a 13-14 inch 2-in1 with discrete graphics and thunderbolt 3... Will it ever come to be?

Hello Brian,
Thank you for this great review. The best I've seen on the zenbook flip. I would be glad if you could give us your point of view on the ZenBook flip 15 with dedited GTX 1050. I'm just beginning in content creation and I thought this 2 and 1 laptop could be a good fit. I could not find a 2in1 with integrated GPU, Nice design (not gaming), good performance and under 1500. What do you think ?

Good review thanks. So just to confirm, it will have no problem running 2560x1440 via the hdmi?

Actually a fantastic review. You sir, deserve more subs! However i will pick at the "any recent monitor" notation. You certainly have a valid point, but i think it's a bit harsh. While there isn't exact a stat that covers everyone, steam only reports less than 2% of users who have something higher than 1440p. You can argue that steam isn't a great stat for this laptop, but i'd argue back that neither is content creation of other professions that need high res. People aren't (usually) buying ultrabooks as computing monsters either way.

Great review, Brian! Do you know if it's possible to connect 2 external monitors with FullHD?

Very good review. What about tablet mode and keyboard and mouse ? Just bought one and from time to time its getting a bit crazy and unstable and auto-rotation also looks weird sometime. When it's fully open in tablet mode its not too loose ?

Hmm unsure whether to get the ASUS Zenbook Flip 14 UX461UN-E1030R or the ASUS Zenbook 13 UX331UN-C4137R...

Hi Brian. I recently bought this device and I like to draw on it. The problem i am having is that i cannot use my finger to select a tool, e.g. brush, when the pen is on the device. I have to lift the pen up like 3 inches so that i can do that. Are you facing a similar problem?

Really interesting comment about the HDMI that I haven't heard before in any other reviews. Do you mean perchance that it won't work as a smooth display output for almost any monitor, or only the newer monitors? If you tried to connect it to yours, could you easily play a film from your laptop to the monitor, or is it choppy? Thanks! :)

Brian, Great review. I am looking at the follow asus zenbook specs.: ASUS ZenBook Flip 14 Ultra Slim Convertible Laptop, 14” Full HD WideView, 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8565U, 16GB RAM, 512GB PCIe SSD, GeForce MX150, Windows 10, UX461FN-DH74T.

Is this laptop still not able to use a HDMI for a monitor? If so, that is a downer!!!

Very nice review thanks. I'm subscribing.

But the pen is bad compare to other laptops in this range. I tried the flip 14, the Yoga 920, and the surface, just yesterday in a computer market. And as many other reviews say, the Asus flip 14 cannot compete on the pen experience. A lot of miss inputs (about 1/5 I would say), impossible to draw a very thin line, because you have to put to much pressure on the screen to trigger the writing. And even the gliding sensation is bad, too slipery compare to the 2 others I tried.
Still I will buy this laptop for it other qualities, but if you really matter taking pen notes, just forget this one.

I wouldn't call it a deal-breaker... On the opposite, if the price is even slightly lower because of this port reason, well, even better
