I just purchased a 2019 Tiguan in Aug 2023. I had to replace the batteries. I used these instructions to replace. I however only had a 2032 battery. No problem. I had to use the FLAT head screwdriver to hold the battery down as I manipulated the cover into place and press the cover down. If you don’t hold it into place you risk bending or puncturing the battery or even breaking the cover.

I have the same fob and all my other fobs used 2032 size batteries, so that's all I had on hand. I took out the 2025 and decided to try the 2032 as it's just a pinch thicker and it worked. The back went on no problem. The key fob is fully functional since the 2032 and 2025 batteries are both the same voltage.

Thanks for this! I just did it and it works! I waited a bit too long to change mine and one time it said something like "car will not start. Put key at designated spot." I put it next to the ignition and it started.

Very helpful thanks. I have just bought a 2016 Tiguan second key flat battery so can’t start car with that as usual so will do what you have outlined and hopefully save myself a few pounds.

Good video. In my experience the 2032 works just fine in these fobs as well. Have to gently force it shut with the gasket/ back of the fob, but they're both 3V.

Great video thanks. For anyone concerned about maybe damaging the plastic cover with the screwdriver, I personally was able to just pull on it with my fingers where you twist the screwdriver and it came right off without much force.

Great instructions! I have a pre-owned 2016 Tiguan. The fob looks slightly different but the process is the same. The battery inside was a 2032 and fortunately all the other car fobs in my house use that battery so we had plenty on hand.
