Mandatory composting coming soon to NYC

It is all about ticketing homeowners and has nothing to do with saving the environment. The city does not even have enough facilities to process all that waste but making it mandatory gives them the ability to write up citations.

They tried this before, and guess what? It didn't work out at all. The main problem was they only collect once a month and the most annoying part about is, by the end of the first week. The bin smells really bad, and it makes the whole street stink like trash. They should create a rebate program for people who buy one of those electric compost bin and have them compost at home.

Yeah we're suppose to bundle our cardboard, have a separate container for plastics, another for glass, etc. When the truck come for pickup, they throw everything into the back of the truck. Like wtf?? Whats the purpose to separate everything then.?

It boggles my mind that they can't create technology at a recycling facility that can separate plastic, paper, food, etc.

The rats will chew right through the plastic bins.Back in the day we had galvanized buckets for food waste which went to pig farms!!!

In 1960s Philly, garbage was collected separately from the trash. Composting makes great fertilizer and is very marketable.
