Lisa Gade reviews Apple’s 3rd gen iPad Pro for 2018, now available in 11” and 12.9” sizes. We use the 12.9” iPad Pro for this review. The new iPads start at $799 and $999 and are available with optional Gigabit 4G LTE and storage up to 1TB storage. They run iOS 12 on the insanely fast Apple A12X Bionic CPU. They have Liquid Retina LCD displays supporting the new Apple Pencil 2 and a magnetic connector for accessories like the Smart Keyboard Cover. Face ID replaces Touch ID, USB-C replaces the Lightning connector and they sport a new straight-sided design.

The best tech reviewing YouTube channel. Unlike other reviewers who put themselves above tech products. No unnecessary music and logo popping up in the beginning and end.

I’ve been watching you for about a decade now, and after all those years you’re still one of the most consistently objective and thorough reviewers on YouTube. And probably the only one that has directly influenced a few of my purchases, none of which have disappointed me.

Please never change, Lisa.

"no more sticking the apple pencil in the iPad's butthole" LMAO. Perfectly said. :)

8:09 finally! Someone mentions the primary way to charge the Apple pencil gen1. Thumbs up for the yes and no approach to the 'can it replace your laptop' question. Lots of reviewers just generalized their personal use case and drew a conclusion from it. Tablet computers not the same as laptop/desktop computers.
important use cases of a tablet computer, made possible by the large touch interphase, pencil input and portability: by artists, designers, teachers, students, healthcare professionals, instructors, lawyers... In field study, sports, entertainment, inventory... For drawing, annotation of pictures, videos, documents...

I’m more than happy with my 2nd gen iPad Pro 12.9”. The smaller bezels, don’t make up for the lack of 3.5mm jack. I have airpods, but mainly plug in my proper headphones for listening to music at home.

Honestly you are one of the best reviewers. No shouting, no drama, no click baiting. honest review.

What you said about editing in Word is absolutely right. The one thing keeping the iPad from fully replacing my MacBook is that it's truly impossible to produce documents with any formatting on it. Pages is still horribly limited, and Word for iOS is severely scaled back from the desktop version. No matter how much power these have, the inputs make editing impossible.

Lisa please review the mac mini. I can't get my hand on a comprehensive review like yours. Keep up the good work.

"...at a cost that's gonna give you a heart-attack!" Love it, just as I love all your product reviews. And I say this while going through many other Apple product reviews including AppleInsider, MacRumors, Macworld, etc. Your reviews really hit home with me. I appreciate the like-mindedness, humor and candor. MobileTechReview is the place to go for the straight scoop!

I wanna see a smackdown with the surface pro 6! They’re basically the same price now, so the iPad doesn’t have the excuse of being cheaper anymore.

Whenever I want to buy Apple products, I decide only after watching your review. Thankyou

BTW, there is a trackpad for selecting text. Just use two fingers anywhere on the text area to move the cursor. If you want to select, hold both fingers down until the cursor stops blinking, and you can select text. This works in Pages (I don't have Word), but it should work in any standard text entry area (e.g., Safari's URL bar). Of course, you can do any of these gestures on the software keyboard as well, but lots of people don't know you can do these gestures in the text area which is useful if you are using a hardware keyboard.

Since iOS 9, Apple's built-in software, virtual keyboard has a trackpad feature that turns the entire keyboard area into a gigantic trackpad to control iOS’s “I-beam” insertion cursor. A two finger tap of the iOS software keyboard activates the onscreen trackpad feature.
Double tapping in the trackpad mode will let you select whole lines or whole paragraphs of text .
You can tweak the selection by two finger dragging within the trackpad area.
This is a close as you can get to a real trackpad device on an iPad/iPad Pro.
Why do not more iPad users know about this virtual trackpad feature?
Because many iPad users are too lazy or too uninitiated to ever take the time to learn and become proficient using the iPad's onscreen, virtual keyboard, which is even made better on an iPad Pro.
Many users just immediately go and purchase an external Bluetooth keyboard/keyboard case/cover and have never discovered this virtual trackpad feature that has been with the iPad for 3, count ‘em, 3 iOS versions, now!
I forced my myself to become proficient at using the iPad’ s onscreen, virtual keyboard since the very first iPad in 2010.
The onscreen trackpad feature works wonderfully.

I really appreciate how you can make a review form many perspectives. Allot of reviewers just think of themselves!

We want the trackpad, then its worth considering.
Otherwise it's too limited for productivity tasks.

Finally USB C OMG... why was that so hard apple.
How about letting us have open access to external drives and making it easier to share files to anyone outside Apples ecosystem ( Bluetooth ).
Can't claim to be any sort of laptop replacement without those.

I like that you don’t start off your videos with a dbrand ad.

If you constantly have to look at the iPad, it defeats the purpose of using the external display. I needs mouse support
