Thanks for answering my question on that show. I ironed it on my glass table between two bedsheets and with a lot of spraying water. It worked perfectly, it’s almost as good as from the mill.

I have a large Formica table. I put a towel down on that and spread the kilt on that and iron about 18”-24” wide sections at a time.

I wonder if stashing a kilt in the freezer for a few hours makes it less odorous. The big denim aficionados apparently do that with their jeans after spot cleaning.

As I wear wool a lot I just hang it out on the washing line on a windy day.( Out of the sun).It removes most smells. And any mud I let dry and brush of. Any really bad stains I try just to clean with a damp cloth and mild soap just the stain itself. But I also wear light coloured linens as an under tunic and I wash and hang on the washing line (in the sun) as sunlight is very good for whites .And as for wearing your under tunic or shirt by itself most people would do it in the summer anyway. Just put a belt on. As you didn't have a lot of clothes it was normal if warm enough to just wear the under tunic for working around in.

What about dampening it then using a flame (lighter) to singe the strays ?.. or an electric razor ?

Is there an inside and and outside of tartan cloth as it comes off the loom or are both sides equal? Just wondering if one side might be rougher than the other?
