one wire alternator install on a 89 chevy truck. I bought a new one wire alternator over the internet and gave it a test on my 89 chevy truck, I have been dismantling the computer system and running the truck with a carb and hei ignition, I show how I install a one wire alternator

Did you have a ground wire on yours? And do you have to have one? My guess is not

I have a 88 GTA trans am 5.0 tpi serp belt
And I went to try what you did and I could only get the 1 long bolt in the bottom and the bolt on too was off 3 inches
So I couldn't get it done
Did you just run 1 bolt and crank it tight?

So what is that wire/harness you tossed aside and said it does nothing? Is that for the regulator? On my 95 it seems to be creating a short. Its one single wire that has a plug on the end, which clips into the alt. Volt meter has been dropping when driving, combined with sputtering at low rpms. But only sputters when volts are low. Well I noticed, at idle, I can create the drop in volts if I wiggle that wire.. I'm fairly sure it's that wire causing it, but there are other wires connected to it further up; couple grounds and something else.

Does your alternator get hot in installed mine an it gets hot any advise why

My new chrome pwrmaster 12si type was doing good for a few minutes, but then went to 18volts. Could it be caused because I didn't add a gbd wire? I thought mount bolt would be enough. What gauge gnd do I use?
